On weekdays, it’s so quiet you’ll feel like you have a private beach all to yourself.
On weekends, it becomes a favorite spot for locals to barbecue and unwind.
By the way, the “Obama Beach House,” the former president’s vacation home, is also located nearby along the same coastline.
Kaiona Beach: A Hidden Spot for Sea Turtles
But Kaiona Beach is more than just beautiful water!
Once you get in the water, you’ll find plenty of colorful fish, and many sea turtles can be seen swimming leisurely near the rocky areas.
In fact, this rocky area is an ancient Hawaiian fishpond called “Pahonu.”
This translates to “turtle enclosure,” as it was a place where sea turtles were once raised for the chiefs.
This is likely why so many sea turtles are drawn to this spot.
The view of the Koolau Mountains from the sea is also breathtaking. The calm water is like a swimming pool, perfect for floating and relaxing, making it an ideal location for those seeking a healing Hawaiian escape.
It’s a beach that I feel offers one of the most authentically Hawaiian experiences, and perhaps former President Obama felt the same way!
