Alii Beach is a popular spot for seeing sea turtles, located near Haleiwa Town.

The water is shallow, ranging from adult knee to waist deep, so even non-swimmers can safely enjoy playing in the ocean.

Geographically, it’s in a location sheltered from waves, creating a wonderful environment where you can have fun even during the winter season!

The adjacent spacious, grassy park is pleasant and perfect for a picnic.

It’s also famous for hosting the Hawaiian Pro, a world-class surfing competition held every November.

With so much to see and do, be sure to visit when you’re sightseeing on the North Shore.

The Best Season to See Sea Turtles at Alii Beach

Actually, this is a beach where sea turtles are more likely to come ashore during the winter season when the waves are bigger!

While they often come ashore in the summer too, the chances are about half as high compared to winter, so you’ll have better luck at other beaches during the summer.

In the winter, you’re highly likely to see both skilled surfers and sea turtles!

However, parts of the offshore area at Alii Beach are very shallow, so on days when the tide is low, sea turtles can’t enter the bay, and you may not see any at all.

If you see many turtles swimming in the water, even if none are on the sand, there’s a high chance they will come ashore!

On days when you can’t see any turtles swimming either, it’s best to move on to another beach instead of waiting around.
