Makapuu Lookout, an iconic scenic spot on Oahu’s east coast.
A lookout where you can enjoy views of both the beautiful ocean and the majestic Ko’olau mountain range.
Offshore ahead is a notably large uninhabited island called Rabbit Island, named because its shape looks like a rabbit lying on its side.
On the mountain side to the right you can see Makapuu Lighthouse in the distance, and below the cliffs to the left is Makapuu Beach, where large waves break year-round.
This area is also famous for humpback whale watching in the winter season (around November to March), when whales arrive from Alaska.
It’s a spot where you can enjoy spectacular views in about 15 minutes, so be sure to stop by if you pass through.
Makapuu Lookout and Rabbit Island

The Rabbit Island visible from Makapuu Lookout is actually a well-known power spot for those in the know.
It is said to be the source of healing energy in the area.
The surrounding area is mostly black, jagged lava rock, and Rabbit Island stands out for its smooth, white appearance.
Ancient Hawaiians are said to have performed rituals and prayers on the island to receive strong energetic vibrations.
After cleansing body and mind at a heiau or healing pool, you might, following ancient Hawaiian practice, receive power from the island.
