Ko Olina Lagoons is a swimming beach area located in one of Hawaii’s premier resort districts.

These are four artificial lagoons constructed at regular intervals along approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) of the Ko Olina coastline!

Lined along the lagoons are luxury resort hotels such as the Four Seasons Resort, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, and Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club.

Because of their location, many people assume they are private hotel beaches, but they are actually public beaches accessible to anyone.

It is a place with a perfect Hawaiian atmosphere, so spending a full relaxing day here is highly recommended!

The 4 Lagoons of Ko Olina

Ko Olina is a luxury resort area that gained rapid popularity with the opening of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa.

The Ko Olina Lagoons were created during the resort’s development. Being man-made, they are well-maintained and feature beautiful arched shapes.

The four lagoons are numbered 1 through 4 from north to south, and each has a cute nickname!

[Lagoon 1] Kohola Lagoon

This lagoon has the nickname Kohola, meaning whale.

It faces the Four Seasons Resort and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa.

If you use the parking lot, there is a designated lot between the two hotels mentioned above, but since it is the most popular, it is often full.

If you plan to shop at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, using their parking lot is also a good option!

[Lagoon 2] Honu Lagoon

This lagoon has the nickname Honu, meaning sea turtle.

It faces the luxury condominium complex, Ko Olina Beach Villas.

A feature of this spot is that it has the fewest people among the lagoons, making it generally very relaxed.

Since all lagoons are connected by a walkway, if Kohola Lagoon is crowded, you can simply walk over to Honu!

[Lagoon 3] Naia Lagoon

This lagoon has the nickname Naia, meaning dolphin.

It faces Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club.

You will see blue parasols and beach chairs from the hotel, but please be careful as these are exclusively for Marriott guests.

Since many hotel guests use this area, it is a lagoon with a fair amount of people, though not overly crowded!

[Lagoon 4] Ulua Lagoon

This lagoon has the nickname Ulua, meaning giant trevally.

It is the only one of the four lagoons not directly facing a hotel or condominium, so locals and tourists often come here to enjoy the beach.

Even though they are public beaches, this might be a good choice for those who feel hesitant about entering areas filled mostly with hotel guests!

It has a large number of parking spaces and is easy to access, making it the most recommended lagoon!

How to Enjoy Ko Olina Lagoons

The greatest feature of Ko Olina Lagoons is undoubtedly their distinct Hawaiian resort atmosphere!

The scenery is beautiful, making it perfect for leisurely swimming or walking along the water’s edge.

There are wide grassy areas at each lagoon, so you can also enjoy a picnic while looking at the ocean.

By the way, the most popular way to spend time here is to enjoy the Disney Character Breakfast at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, and then go swimming in the lagoon.

Even if you are not staying there, you can take photos with Mickey and Minnie and enjoy swimming in a calm beach without waves, so it feels almost like you are staying at the resort.

There is plenty of free parking, so you can easily visit by car.
