Meg’s Drive-Inn was a popular plate lunch restaurant located in the affordable Kalihi district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hidden gem with an extensive menu, it offered classic Hawaiian-style plate lunches, hamburgers, saimin, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a huge favorite among locals, with dishes like oxtail soup and beef stew being especially popular!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With so many options on the menu, it could be hard to choose, but you couldn’t go wrong with anything. If you were looking to try a unique local spot, this was a great place to visit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These might be a bit different from the most popular items, but they are the dishes that made us regulars and that we highly recommend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one thing you absolutely couldn’t miss at Meg’s Drive-Inn was their Zing-Dings (chicken wings)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were available as a plate lunch or you could buy the chicken by itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regular, non-spicy chicken was good, but personally, I recommend the spicy version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They always served them fresh out of the fryer, so the crispy texture and juicy meat were irresistibly delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up is the loco moco, seasoned perfectly for the local palate!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loco moco is originally a simple dish of a beef patty topped with a fried egg and gravy, so honestly, many places don’t make it very well. (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the loco moco at Meg’s Drive-Inn featured a juicy beef patty and a unique, original gravy sauce, making it one of the best you could find at a plate lunch spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the many famous loco moco restaurants, this was a true hidden gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Miso Soup<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

And finally, the best miso soup in Hawaii!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For travelers visiting from overseas, a Japanese dish like this might not seem too exciting. (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was incredibly popular, even among repeat visitors to Hawaii!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a simple soup with rich white miso, wakame seaweed, and tofu, but it offered an authentic taste of Japan that was hard to come by in Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their fish dishes and rice were also delicious, so it was always fun to try their various plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
