Makapuu Heiau is a popular power spot on the east coast of Oahu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heiau means shrine or temple in the Hawaiian language, and it is also known by another name, Inikioro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two heiaus here, one dedicated to a male god and the other to a female god, and they have watched over the Hawaiian people as gods of fishing since ancient times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is said to be effective in praying for safe travel, as people used to pray for safe voyages here, and for success, as they used to pray for large catches in fishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it is a place with very strong energy, it is said that people with strong spiritual senses naturally feel something just by stepping into this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both heiaus have many stones piled up, but please be very careful as acts such as touching or taking them home are illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you walk along the ocean for a while from Makapuu Heiau, you will find a rocky beach area known as the tide pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tide pools are puddles of water left behind when the waves recede during low tide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several tide pools in this area that are said to be pools of purification, so playing in the rocky shore with children and babies is also recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you look closely into the water, you may encounter cute sea creatures such as fish, crabs, and hermit crabs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rarely, you might even see an endangered Hawaiian monk seal taking a relaxing nap!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, while it is usually a calm place, there are days with strong swells from around November to April, so please be careful and play safely on days with high waves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might want to visit here when you feel like relaxing in a quiet place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
