Tanioka’s Seafoods is a legendary ahi poke shop that everyone who lives in Hawaii knows.
Since its establishment in 1978, it has consistently ranked in the top 3 in Hawaii’s popular food polls!
Located in Waipahu, an area not frequently visited by tourists, it may not be well-known to many visitors as it’s often not featured in guidebooks.
It’s a very “Hawaiian” kind of shop, offering not only poke but also a variety of other items like fried foods, musubi, and traditional Hawaiian dishes.
As a place loved by locals for many years, you can be sure of its quality and value!
Recommended Menu at Tanioka’s Seafoods
Without a doubt, the most popular item at Tanioka’s Seafoods is the Spicy Ahi, where the spicy sauce and fresh ahi are a perfect match for rice!
The shop focuses on flavor and quality ingredients rather than a vast menu, so their poke selection is primarily tuna (ahi) and octopus (tako), with a limited number of varieties.
You can buy poke by weight or have it made into a poke bowl.
If you order a small size, you can choose one type of poke for your bowl.
On this day, they were running low on Garlic Ahi, so even though it’s usually one choice, they kindly gave me two types as a bonus. How lucky!
This is the two-choice version, which costs 1.5 times the small size but gives you twice the volume.
It might seem a bit pricey compared to other poke bowls, but the taste is truly top-tier in Hawaii, so you won’t regret buying it.
My personal favorite combination is Spicy Ahi & Miso Tako!
If that’s still not enough food for you, they also have a great selection of fried items like fried chicken and korokke (croquettes) to enjoy as side dishes.
While they are famous for their poke, the “Hawaiian Plate,” which includes kalua pork, poi, and haupia (coconut pudding), is also very popular.
