Sam’s Club is a members-only warehouse club where you can find some of the best deals in Hawaii.
It’s operated by Walmart, the world’s largest supermarket chain, and since it’s not yet available in some countries like Japan, it might be an unfamiliar name to many visitors.
Products are sold in bulk, so the quantities are quite large, but you can purchase them at prices that are significantly more reasonable than other supermarkets.
In the United States, it has a similar number of stores and members as Costco, making them direct competitors!
The incredibly spacious store is packed with a wide variety of products, making it a great place to buy souvenirs as well as stock up on food and drinks you’ll need during your stay in Hawaii.
Sam’s Club Membership Costs

Sam’s Club offers two types of memberships: Club ($45/year) and Plus ($110/year).
Each membership allows you to issue two cards!
The benefits available to Plus members, which are not included for Club members, are:
- 2% cash back on qualifying purchases, up to $500 annually
- Free shipping on most items for online orders
- Free curbside pickup service
- Access to special discounts
- Early shopping hours before the regular 10 AM opening time
These are the additional benefits.
This means the Plus membership is a better deal for those who spend over $3,000 a year at Sam’s Club.
Unlike Costco, there are no restrictions on credit cards, so you can freely use cards from any major brand.
Sam’s Club One-Day Pass

Sam’s Club actually used to have a one-day pass system that allowed non-members to shop.
It was easy to get one at the customer service desk. Although there was a drawback—a 10% surcharge compared to member prices—the original prices were so low compared to other stores that it was still a great deal.
However, perhaps due to its unpopularity, this one-day pass has now been discontinued.
So, does this mean tourists have no choice but to become a member?
It might make sense if you’re staying in Hawaii for a long time, but paying for a membership just for a single souvenir run seems a bit wasteful, right?
For those people, there’s good news: the new “$45 cash back when you join” promotion!
This is a new system that essentially makes the membership fee free.
The store has many products not available in other countries, so it might be worth becoming a member for just one year.
Even if you don’t buy anything, just experiencing its scale is fun, so be sure to check it out.
