The Trail at Koko Crater Botanical Garden
Koko Crater Botanical Garden is located inside a crater, and the entire area is laid out as a walking trail.
There’s a map of the garden at the entrance (you’ll find it inside a mailbox), so be sure to grab one if you need it!
You’ll also find information about the history of the crater and the plants you can see in the garden.
The full loop trail is about 2 miles (3.2 km) long and takes about an hour to walk. You can see a variety of trees not only from Hawaii but also from around the world, including Africa and Asia.
If you just want to do a quick loop near the entrance, it will only take about 15 to 20 minutes.
Even on the shorter walk, you can still enjoy plenty of plumerias, bougainvilleas, and hibiscuses!
The Plumerias of Koko Crater Botanical Garden
The most popular area in Koko Crater is the plumeria grove, where you can see over 100 plumeria trees.
It’s like a forest of plumerias, making it a true power spot where the scenery and fragrance will soothe you!
The plumeria blooming season is from May to October, so if you’re visiting Hawaii during this time, be sure to stop by.
At the peak of the season, you can enjoy the sweet fragrance of the flowers filling the air. When the blossoms start to fall, the ground becomes like a carpet of petals.
