How to Purchase Tickets for Iolani Palace
Tickets must be booked online in advance through the official website.
Please be aware that same-day tickets are not sold at the ticket window on-site.
The entrance is the office (Hale Koa) located on the left side of Iolani Palace when facing it from the front.
Once your ticket is confirmed, you’ll be given a sticker to wear on your chest.
After that, you’ll be called when it’s time for your entry or tour, so you’ll have free time until then.
If you have some time before your entry, it’s a good idea to visit the basement galleries to pass the time.
Iolani Palace Tour Details
Iolani Palace offers several types of tours, including a self-led audio tour, a docent-led tour, and special tours that grant access to areas not normally open to the public.
By the way, Iolani Palace is considered a sacred place, so please be aware that you may be denied entry if you wear swimwear or overly revealing clothing.
Self-Led Audio Tour
This tour allows you to explore the palace while listening to a recorded audio guide (also available in Japanese).
A key feature is the minimal wait time, as tours start every 15 minutes.
It’s the most popular tour because it’s affordable and allows you to explore at your own pace.

Docent-Led Tour
This is a tour where a volunteer docent guides you through the palace.
Previously, Japanese-language tours were available once or twice a week, but they are currently offered in English only.
They are offered a few times a week, with tours starting every 30 minutes on available days.
Since these tours are not offered frequently and are subject to cancellation by the docents, it is essential to book in advance if you wish to take this tour.

In addition to the two tours mentioned above, there are also several special tours available.
These exclusive tours are guided experiences that showcase palace collections not usually on public display, and as you might expect, the price is more than double that of the regular tours.
These tours are offered infrequently, and their content and structure can change, so if you are interested in a special tour, be sure to check with Iolani Palace in advance.
Generally, we recommend participating in either the Self-Led Audio Tour or the Docent-Led Tour.
