Asahi Grill is a famous oxtail soup spot beloved by Hawaii locals.

It originally started as a cafe, but its oxtail soup became so popular that they also opened a restaurant.

With its casual atmosphere and affordable, hearty portions, it feels more like a local diner than a restaurant, making it a true local gem!

The signature oxtail soup from this charmingly nostalgic eatery is constantly hailed by many as the best in Hawaii.

It’s also a great spot for those whose stomachs are feeling tired from too many sweets or heavy meals!

Asahi Grill’s Oxtail Soup

It’s no exaggeration to say that Asahi Grill is synonymous with oxtail soup.

It’s their overwhelmingly number one popular item, with about half of the customers in the restaurant ordering it!

This dish features oxtail slow-cooked for hours, resulting in a rich broth and meat so tender it falls right off the bone.

A tip for enjoying it even more is to put plenty of grated ginger and soy sauce in a small dish and dip the meat in it as you eat.

The soup comes with a side of rice, which you can upgrade to fried rice for an additional charge.

For those who aren’t keen on the soup and rice combination, they also offer “Oxtail Ramen”!

Be sure to order it in the style that you prefer.

Other Recommended Menu Items at Asahi Grill

Asahi Grill has other great dishes besides their famous oxtail soup!

They have a full menu of local-style favorites, so be sure to try a variety of items.

Fried Rice

Their fried rice, with its delicious, crispy, finely chopped bacon, is a must-try.

Asahi Grill’s fried rice is the second most popular item on the menu, right after the oxtail soup.

There are several types of fried rice to choose from, but my personal recommendation is the Kalbi Fried Rice.

It’s packed with generous portions of kalbi (Korean-style short ribs) yet is very reasonably priced, making it a fantastic value!

Chicken Katsu Curry

Another personal recommendation that you should definitely try is the Chicken Katsu Curry.

While it’s a popular local food in Hawaii, to be honest, many places don’t make it very well.

But the curry at Asahi Grill has a Japanese-style flavor and is absolutely delicious.

Plus, it comes with a salad and a massive double-layered portion of chicken katsu!

The restaurant has an extensive menu, so have fun exploring and finding your own favorite.
