Alii Agriculture Farms is the only fishing pond in Hawaii.

It’s a uniquely Hawaiian spot where you can fish for various species like tilapia, grass carp, catfish, and prawns (a type of large shrimp), with the added bonus that they’ll cook your catch for you!

Nestled in an area surrounded by nature, the scenery is also wonderful.

Catching fish and prawns you might not often see, relaxing in Hawaii’s nature, and spending a leisurely day might be the ultimate luxury.

It’s a highly recommended spot for a casual encounter with Hawaii’s local wildlife!

Tilapia Fishing at Alii Agriculture Farms

At Alii Agriculture Farms, many visitors come to fish for tilapia.

In this pond, you can also catch catfish and grass carp.

The fishing time is a generous four hours, so you could easily spend the whole day here!

It’s primarily catch-and-release, but you have the option to take your fish home or have it cooked to eat!

Incidentally, tilapia is a fish commonly sold in supermarkets in Hawaii, and it’s popular to eat it deep-fried.

This fish here is a tilapia.

Waikiki’s Ala Wai Canal is known for being a bit polluted, but it’s also home to a large tilapia population. As a local joke, you’re almost guaranteed to get a laugh if you ask a restaurant server, “Do you have any tilapia from the Ala Wai Canal?”

It’s a mild white-fleshed fish, so be sure to give it a try.

Prawn Fishing at Alii Agriculture Farms

This pond is exclusively for prawn fishing.

Prawns are a different type of crustacean, slightly larger than shrimp.

Here, you can enjoy fishing in one-hour increments.

Prawn fishing is a bit trickier than regular fishing, but if you join one of our tours, we’ll secretly teach you a surefire technique to catch them!

Once you get the hang of it, it’s quite easy.

The prawn fishing area is usually not crowded, so the prawns are very responsive.

Most people can catch around 3 to 5 prawns in just one hour of fishing.

Sometimes you can even catch some impressively large ones!

A Mini Petting Zoo for Animal Encounters

The owner is an animal lover, so the farm is home to various creatures, including birds like turkeys and peacocks, as well as goats and pigs.

It’s great that there are things to do to keep you entertained, even if you’re not fishing!

Plate Lunches at Alii Agriculture Farms

Whether you catch tilapia or prawns, you can have your catch made into a plate lunch for an additional fee of $7.

It’s a great deal, as it comes with vegetables, pineapple (dusted with red li hing mui powder), and rice!

The tilapia is deep-fried, and the prawns are stir-fried with garlic.
